In the Entertainment Weekly cover story, Stewart says the power of Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin’s entry into the race is evidenced in the ability it had to sideline every other character in the election. Stewart calls the press covering it “six-year-olds playing soccer.”“It has cast the first African-American presidential nominee, the oldest [non-incumbent] presidential nominee, and a really wild cork vice presidential candidate completely out of the picture,” Stewart says. “The press is six-year-olds playing soccer; nobody has a position, it’s just ‘Where’s the ball? Where’s the ball? Sarah Palin has the ball!’”
Stewart insists his Daily Show, known for combing archives and stitching together footage revealing the contradictions of the political set, is “not a journalistic gotcha, it’s just anger.”
